DAY 1: CANADA, OH CANADA

Canada, oh Canada. I always dreamed of traveling to Canada and now I am here.

I will be honest, I am actually writing this the 30th of July. But I will try to talk about my adventures as if I am writing day by day. In this way I will not write any spoiler, though the “Thanks” part is one already. The only problem is that I will have to remember what happened and something will inevitably slip out of my mind. I mean, it happens even if I try to recall something that happened the same day.

Well, today I went to the airport very early with all of my family. I remember I could not sleep that much. I was not nervous, but I guess that I unconsciously was because I kept waking up all night long.

By 9am we were already on our way to Malpensa airport, just to find that my plane got delayed. I was supposed to leave at 1.55pm and we took off at 6pm. That was a crazy long delay, but a flight to Newark got canceled so I was getting a little worried that my flight could get canceled too. Luckily it did not, so I spent my time watching some “Run! Bts”, which is a show that I really enjoy. It is basically a bunch of millionaire guys known as the K-pop group Bts who go crazy and get hyper competitive over small awards (like snacks or avoiding penalties) given to the winner/s of different games.

Because of the delay, the company I was flying with gave me a voucher to have lunch for free. I ended up having two lunches because I shared some food with my family before we parted our ways.

I do not want to complain or be rude, but the security staff were pretty much disinterested and did the controls with little attention. Even when we had to board the airplane, the staff made it even more chaotic.

The two old ladies behind me were constantly complaining and that is one thing that I really do not like. I believe that if something is wrong you should use the proper form and ways of communication to help improve the situation. Because if you just talk behind someone’s back, you could share wrong information based on your own feeling. I think that it is not right.

Whatever, we finally got on the plane and I had a nice flight. I watched Creed and Creed II. I admit that I got hooked into boxing and thought that the two movies could make a great Christmas gift for my father. Please, do not read this dad or just forget it before the 25th of December.

One thing that I always look forward to is the meal. My flight routine is pretty much always the same: sleep, movie, eat, sleep, movie, eat, play games. The goal of this routine is not to get too much jet lag. In this case, not sleeping meant that I could go to bed at the right time once I landed in Toronto.

There were no games on the flight but I could do the other parts of the plan. I tried to switch the games with another movie, but I could not do that because the movie I chose was so boring. Sometimes the kid from the row in front of me would peek over the seats to play with me and wave his hands. He was so cute I wanted to be dad instantly.

The pilot actually flew the plane as fast as he could to make up for the delay and we landed in Pearson airport at 8.30pm. I got my baggage really fast and took out the notes I needed to get from the airport to my airbnb in Richmond Hill which is like part of the Greater Toronto Area, but it is actually one hour and a half north from Toronto.

It should have taken me two public bus to get there in about two hours, but I got lost trying to get from one terminal to another. I think my lucky star followed me because one staff member from the airport noticed I was a bit lost and she offered me a ride. Her name is Cielo (read like see-hay-low), a Dominican woman around fifty or older. One of the reason I accepted her help is that I thought I could out-muscle her if she had bad intentions. But that was actually one of the many times I got to experience Canadians’ hospitality.

She drove me to my place at 55 Grange Drive, Richmond Hill. I was so thankful because she avoided me a really long trip on the public transportation in the middle of the night. I would have got lost without a doubt. She also told me that she does not usually do that, but she did because “You must have a beautiful soul, it made me want to help you”.

To show my gratitude I gave her one of the magnets I had bought earlier that day at the airport. It was one magnet of Milan. She even gave me her contacts in case I ever needed anything.

After saying goodbye, I walked into the house and met another guest who told me which was my room. Unfortunately, the host was already sleeping and I did not get the chance to talk to her.

I made it to my room after such a long day and had the strength to put my clothes in order, especially those for the wedding. I even washed my face before taking some pictures of the room to share with my family.

Finally, at like 12.30am I get to sleep on my super comfortable bed. In case I failed to tell you, I booked at a premium airbnb host. So the house is super classy, big and comfy. It is nice after such a long and tiring day.
